SKB SOUSAPHONE CASE | 1SKB-380 |
Philip Westermann plays the sousaphone (a marching band tuba) in German techno marching band Meute. Philip has a classical music education that fuels their songs with thick baselines, which is just what modern electronic dance music requires. Using just wind instruments and drums, Meute transfers electronic music to a brass band context while also bringing electronic music to the streets.
Which SKB case do you use?
I use the SKB Sousaphone Case.
Why did you choose for SKB?
Since I’m using a Conn Sousaphone, it’s not so easy to find a suitable case. The SKB case is almost unbreakable and lightweight, which makes it easy to handle. Of course, the lifelong guarantee is highly appreciated as well!
Do you travel a lot with Meute?
Meute plays around 100 shows a year. Right now, we are on a long tour across Europe, including Denmark, Netherlands, Belgium, England, France, Italy, Spain, Poland, Hungary, Czech Republic, Switzerland and Austria. We travel mostly by touring bus right now, but during the summer festival season we also travel by plane often.
Our latest single release ‘You and Me' has 16 million views on YouTube. In October we are going on our first US tour for three weeks!
Are you satisfied with your SKB case?
I’m very satisfied with my SKB case. It is light and the wheels make it easy to carry around. The size is just right, so it’s usually not a problem for all the different airlines we travel with.
“My sousaphone was built by Conn in 1957 so it’s quite old. Although on tour we always have stagehands who carry our instruments and technical stuff, I prefer to carry my instrument myself. A lot of sousaphone players give names to their instruments. I don’t, but I feel that there is somehow some strange deep mystical relation between me and the horn. That’s why I respectfully like to carry that old lady myself.”
